Next Week at Holly Grove/PTA Picnic/Kickoff!

• Thanks to all our families for your support of our PTA Kickoff/picnic.  It was a huge success!

• Monday will be a holiday.  School will be closed.

• The PTA will have a Laps for Holly Grove planning meeting on Wednesday at 6:30PM in our Media Center.  Please join us!

• Students in grades 2-5 will receive their first quarter report cards on Thursday.  K-1 students will get a progress report or interim, either at their first conference with the teacher or they will be sent home.  

Staff Back to School luncheon and week in review!

On Friday, our PTA sponsored a back to school luncheon!.  It was a huge event, with lots of food.  Thanks to Ms.  LaDonna Carter, the chairperson for this event, our volunteers and the many parents who sent in food.  The food was delicious and we truly appreciated the support provided by our community.

During our luncheon, our PTA President, Tracy Edick, awarded 10 grants to those staff that applied for them.  The grants totaled over $3500.00 to support special efforts by our staff to provide opportunities for academic support for all students. We are so fortunate to have a community that provide funds to support the many programs and activities that we sponsor at our school.

Happenings next week at HGES:  Open House for tracks 3 and 4 will be held on Thursday from 6-8PM.  We will have two classroom sessions (in the event that you have more than one child) and an opportunity for you to attend a session on the new Common Core curriculum.  We will begin in our multipurpose room with a general PTA meeting.  The Common Core sessions will be held in the Media Center.

Our PTA Board meeting will be held on Tuesday at 6:30PM in the Media Center.  Join us to find out how you can support the PTA and our school.

Free parenting class offered!

You are invited to a free Parenting Class & Support Group, ScreamFree Parenting! This does not mean to imply that you are a screamer... but is a catchy title of a NY Times Best Seller ScreamFree Parenting , by Hal Runkel, LMFT.  I became a facilitator about four years ago and offer this twice a year, we meet for 10 weeks on Sundays from 3:00 to 4:30 pm.  The dates are Aug. 19 & 26, Sept. 10 & 17, Oct. 22 & 29, Nov. 5 & 12, and Dec. 3 & 10, we meet at my colleague's office/Conference Room near Rudino's on Hwy 55, 800 W. Williams, #136.  Parents can trade off coming, or if there is enough interest in adding a session during the school day each week, I had some Dads come on Sunday and Moms come during the week.  We will watch a DVD clip by Hal and fill out our worksheet before we talk about strategies we are trying each week.  You may learn more about this at www.screamfree.com and please RSVP to me at tguinn@wcpss.net please give me your name, phone number  All information is kept confidential and in group as well... We are in need of volunteers and food for our Staff Luncheon!

The PTA is in need of food and volunteers for our staff luncheon on August 17th.  If you are willing to volunteer and/or bring in a dish, please contact Ladonna Carter at  LDivakiana@aol.com .  Flyers are coming home with tracks 1, 2, and 4 today.  Track 3 families you may donate too!  Email Ms. Carter with what you plan to bring and/or to determine how you can volunteer!

Kudos to our PTA and Amy Purvis!

We had a huge turnout for tonight's picnic!  It was so much fun for our students, their families, and our staff.  Thanks to Amy, the PTA,  and all of our volunteers.  Tracks 3 and 4 families will have their picnic on August 30th from 6-8PM.  We are looking forward to another great event.
